DIGITAL IMPACT AWARDS 2017 WINNERS ANNOUNCED

In the seven years since the launch of the Digital Impact Awards, the frontline of digital communications has evolved. Almost every aspect of digital, from big data to SEO, today faces a bigger, smarter and more agile audience. Yet each successful project at this year’s Digital Impact Awards illustrates an intuitive and focused drive towards innovative communications, with the awards’ programme highlighting just how diverse the landscape is.

This year’s awards kicked off in spectacular fashion, with over 400 of the industry’s leading professionals gathered in the Brewery, located in the heart of the City. The ceremony was hosted by award-winning comedian, Russell Kane, whose electric demeanour and amusing opening speech was met with flurries of laughter.

Beginning with the recognition of deliverables, and working through to the best use of digital by sector, the evening’s winners spanned the breadth of digital communications, highlighting the awards’ meticulous breakdown of over 35 categories. As the awards continue to set the industry-wide benchmark in digital stakeholder engagement, each year’s incremental entry figures firmly signify the growing relevance for digital recognition.

The evening’s victories ranged from sector to sector, examples such as Barclays and Unilever both taking home gold for ‘Best corporate website,’ illustrated a keen ability for a company to reshape and remould its owned channels through simple navigation and striking visuals. Gatwick Airport’s work in developing its ‘Airport Community’ app took home gold in the ‘Best corporate app’ category as well as winning ‘Digital in-house team of the year,’ binding its in-depth network of employees through a digital solution that favoured the company’s community-focused outlook.

Andrew Thomas, publishing editor of Communicate magazine and founder of the Digital Impact Awards, says, “Last year was one of the most competitive of years in the entire history of the awards programme. Yet this year’s awards signified the leaps and bounds that digital communications are continuing to make across the professional plateau. The sheer quality and character of the evening’s winners exemplifies not only the homogeneity of today’s digital communications, but equally its importance.”

Winning ‘Digital agency of the year,’ global agency, Omobono, showcased a multifaceted and dynamic approach to its vast portfolio of work. Crafting a collection of projects that incorporate a physical and digital dimension, the agency’s professional outlook has manifested itself across numerous campaigns in collaboration with the likes of Accenture, DMCC and Coats – the latter winning gold in this year’s awards for ‘Best use of digital from the engineering and manufacturing sector.’

Yet the evening’s ‘Digital campaign of the year,’ won by train operating company, Northern, championed innovative communications and customer-focused strategy across the campaign. Displaying both playful and provocative communications strategy with both its ‘Buy Before You Board’ app and ‘Queue Jumper’ online game. The project translated routine messages in a new, exciting way, executing an innovative approach to its numerous assets that ultimately led to the evening’s top prize.
