National Archives of Estonia partnership preserves digital content
The National Archives of Estonia has partnered with global content preservation and migration services provider Memnom to preserve heritage video content.
- Digital & Video
National Archives of Estonia has partnered with media agency Memnon to assist with its first large-scale videotape digitisation. The EU-funded project aims to digitise NAE video tapes before degradation beyond repair.
Magnetic videotape degrades faster than film, and the equipment needed to play it is becoming scarce, leaving a narrowing window for digitisation.
The partnership focuses on digitising up to 1,200 magnetic video tapes containing 4,300 hours of Estonian heritage. The project will be completed within a strict eight-month schedule and is the first time NAE has outsourced its preservation outside of Estonia. The digitised content is now publicly accessible online.
