The result comes from Britain’s Most Admired Companies (BMAC), a ranking published by Echo Research in partnership with the London Stock Exchange. The study draws on more than 350 interviews with board‑level executives, financial analysts and City commentators, offering a view of which companies command the most respect.
Energy supplier Octopus Energy’s top ranking reflects the company’s growth whilst maintaining strong customer service and operational performance in a politically sensitive sector. The energy supplier has expanded in the UK and overseas, at a time when energy affordability, reliability and security are under intense scrutiny.
This is reflected across the study’s wider results. The most admired sectors in 2025 were engineering and machinery, aerospace and defence, and energy distribution and supply, all significantly outperforming the FTSE average. Together, they point to a shift in what admiration looks like in practice: less about brand polish, and more about operational credibility and national relevance.
Alongside the company rankings, Rolls‑Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç was voted Britain’s Most Admired Leader 2025, reinforcing the value of strategic clarity and delivery at board level.
Dame Julia Hoggett, CEO of the London Stock Exchange, said the results highlight the growing premium placed on strong management and the ability to perform in a fast‑changing environment, noting their value for boards and investors focused on sustainable growth.`
Senior leaders cited four areas where confidence and investment need to be unlocked, including tax and pension reform, greater policy stability, more predictable infrastructure and renewed focus on workplace skills.
Echo Research Group CEO Sandra Macleod said the findings show reputation is increasingly “anchored in delivery”, but that future advantage will depend on innovation capability and talent strength, areas where admiration can quickly be gained or lost.
