AI GAINS PUBLIC TRUST OVER INFLUENCERS AND GOVERNMENT

New research reveals the general public places more trust in AI than both social media influencers and government.

A recent study found that 44% of UK adults trust AI, nearly double the 24% who trust social media influencers. Traditional news outlets are trusted by 55%, while only 38% trust the government. Scientists and experts remain the most trusted, with 80% expressing confidence in them.

The research, conducted by OnePoll with 5,020 respondents, also revealed that 57% are confident in AI-generated information, though just 16% regularly double-check it. Despite this, 82% care about the sources AI uses, and 89% expect transparency from media on AI use.

Chris Pharo, CEO of 72Point, said: "Generative AI has transformed how people find and interpret information. Journalism must adapt to maintain credibility."

The study forms part of the 'Traditional Media’s Influence in the Age of AI' white paper, which provides guidance on navigating the AI-driven media landscape.
