OSCARS OF CORPORATE VIDEO

Enchanted trees were an apt addition to an event set in the oldest of the Royal Horticultural Halls, Westminster.

Over 350 industry professionals filled the venue President Obama attended only two weeks ago – testament to the occasion’s magnitude, and worthy of its name as 'the Oscars of corporate video'.

Indeed, with the event previously held at the Grosvenor Hotel, London, its move to the Lindley Hall may have been a break from tradition. However, the quality of its entries was not.

With these year’s video entries among the most diverse and engaging seen at the EVCOM Screen Awards, the event continues to celebrate excellence in the medium of screen.

It also serves to lend a platform to the often unsung heroes of corporate video communications, while serving up humour courtesy of a routine by comedian Andy Parsons. An opening address by EVCOM chairman, Steve Garvey, was also an apt way to begin what proved to be a vaired and enjoyable evening.

Major winners of the night included the Edge Picture Company with 18 trophies, Tangerine Films with six, and Plastic Pictures, which took home four.

One of the night’s most hard-hitting moments came courtesy of drpvideo for NHS West Midlands Ambulance Service, with its gold-winning entry, Pull Through. A cutting insight into the work of the emergency services, drpvideo highlighted the importance of behind the scenes rapid response, as well as the untold stories facing the emergency services on a daily basis.

The night culminated with the Clarion Grand Prix, sponsored by RAW Productions, with Plastic Pictures for Unilever awarded up the coveted gold trophy. Its film, Unilever Sustainable Living Plan: Scaling for Impact, focuses on the downsizing of its deodorant bottles, and its subsequent environmental impact.

Winners of the two major awards, Production company of the year (sponsored by PRG XL Video) and Platinum Award (sponsored by Speakeasy) were Media Zoo and RAW Productions, respectively.
