MCLAREN RELEASES ITS 2021 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT, IN A FIRST FROM A GLOBAL MOTORSPORT FRANCHISE

McLaren’s 2021 Sustainability Report is the first of its kind from a global motorsport franchise, promoting a net-zero mindset across the organisation.

McLaren has published its 2021 Sustainability Report, which details the team’s economic, environmental, and social impacts in 2021 and touts a net-zero mindset across the organisation.

This is the first such published report across Formula 1, IndyCar, Extreme E and esports. It follows a series of sustainability commitments by the McLaren team, including the appointment this year of their first Director of Sustainability, Kim Wilson.

Although the report shows that 2020 and 2021 emission figures were lower than the baseline 2019 emission figures, the report discounts these figures as unreliable due to Covid-19 interference.

The report also shows that in 2021, 43% of new employees were female and 12% of all recruits were from ethnic minority backgrounds. Last year, McLaren entered Extreme E with its first female driver, Emma Gilmour, and its first female race engineer, Leena Gade.

“This report is the product of an organisation-wide effort over many months to gather and analyse data and insights that hold a mirror up to McLaren.” Says McLaren Racing CEO, Zak Brown.

“Sustainability doesn’t have a chequered flag. It’s a long journey and we’re working to influence global conversations, partner values and fan activities, while advocating for regulatory change in our industry.”
