CENTRICA SCOOPS GRAND PRIX AT THE FIRST DIGITAL IMPACT AWARDS

Centrica was the big winner at last night’s inaugural Digital Impact Awards, the UK’s first dedicated celebration of digital work in corporate communications.

At a ceremony at The Tabernacle, Notting Hill, the energy firm walked off with the top prize, the Grand Prix for Greatest Digital Impact.

In a ceremony hosted by the BBC’s arts editor Will Gompertz, Centrica won a further two gold awards – for best corporate website and best online annual report (where it was a joint winner with Prudential) – as well as a bronze award in the category for best use of existing social media tools and sites, in which E.On won gold.

Judged by a panel of digital experts, communications practitioners and academics, the awards programme also saw gongs handed out for best corporate blog (BDO); best use of mobile (the Central Office of Information); best online video (BCS); best online newsroom (SABMiller); best use of social media in a crisis (Eurostar); and best rebrand from the public sector (King’s Health Partners).

The Digital Impact Awards were established by Communicate magazine, the UK’s leading magazine for corporate communications and stakeholder relations.

Communicate’s editor Neil Gibbons said: “The buzz around last night’s awards goes to show how central digital has become to corporate communications. Judges were hugely impressed with the creativity, effectiveness and maturity of the digital work they saw. Our congratulations go out to all of last night’s winners and we look forward to seeing even greater creativity and strategic thinking next year.”
