IS A NEW COMMS ASSOCIATION ON ITS WAY?

The International Visual Communications Association has announced plans to create a new association for communications professionals.

The IVCA has begun a consultation process with its membership, which is composed of creators and commissioners of film, video, digital and live event communication. The IVCA Board is discussing the proposals with the Board of Eventia, the official trade body of the events and live marketing industry.

“These last few years have seen a dramatic shift in the communication landscape,” said Marco Forgione, IVCA chief executive. “These changes provide a unique opportunity for our sector.

“As well as having a stronger international voice with Government, clients and commissioners, the new association will substantially increase the range of benefits and services offers its members.”

The new association would aim to provide a unified voice for the comms industry, which has been valued by some at over £36 billion. The IVCA consultation will be open up until autumn, when there will be a ballot of the membership.

However, there are multiple professional associations operating in the communications sphere currently: it remains to be seen how this new association would differentiate itself.
