TWITTER FEEDS REMOVED FROM LINKEDIN LIVE STREAM
Twitter and LinkedIn have broken up. It’s a case of ‘it’s not you it’s me,’ on both sides.
Hassled LinkedIn users can breathe a sigh of relief as Twitter feeds are no longer linked to the professional networking site’s live stream, ending a two-year relationship between the companies.
Sixty-one per cent of LinkedIn users said their networking experience is either ‘better’ or ‘much better’ since the divorce. Despite the perception of being social-media hungry, the 18-35 demographic of LinkedIn users polled were overwhelmingly in favour of the break.
Twitter’s Product Team Director Michael Sippey said that LinkedIn’s platform was not able to engage with the features characteristic to Twitter. The relationship between the social media companies suffered from the incompatibility of the fast-paced, interactive nature of twitter and LinkedIn’s focused, personality-based outlook.
“If social media sites are going to collaborate successfully, there needs to be a way to filter what is relevant for the different sites and for the different users,” Richard Bell of Parker, Wayne & Kent, the public relations firm that undertook the poll, said. “Syncing updates across all social networks makes the content untargeted to each networks’ communities and users’ various groups of connections.”
The world is growing increasingly interconnected with pins being posted onto newsfeeds and tweets finding their way to blogs. Thus, the dissolution of the LinkedIn/Twitter agreement shows a frustration with the fusion of various forms of social media into the same venue.
