Speed Communications has a lot to get up to speed on.

The PR consultancy announced the co-founders and managing directors Stephen Waddington and Steve Earl will be leaving the company at the end of the month. It also recently acquired KTB PR, adopting it’s founder, Kate Bosomworth as an incoming MD to Speed. Scott McLean, former Speed deputy managing director will be stepping up to MD with the departures of Waddington and Earl.

KTB PR, which specialised in sports PR, was acquired to help Speed move toward becoming a top-20 PR agency by 2015. The acquisition was not linked to the resignation of the Speed co-founders, who both chose to leave to pursue other opportunities. The MD pair has worked together for various agencies for 17 years.

The new MDs will share responsibilities, with Bosomworth heading the consumer practice and McLean leading the corporate practice. Bosomworth says the KTB merger was based on a joint ambition to build PR campaigns that employ effective audience engagement.

McLean adds, “Speed is on a growth trajectory that will be delivered both through acquisition and delivering ground-breaking PR programmes for our clients that redefine the role of digital within audience engagement. It has been a pleasure working with Steve Earl and Stephen Waddington over the past year and helping them to position us so firmly for the next phase of the agency.”
