MUSIC REBRAND HITS HIGH NOTES

For the musically inclined, music can take on a life of its own. The rebrand of Music in Detention has given the charity’s identity new life.

The novel branding, done by Lydia Thornley Design, includes a stave or set of strings that comes to life along the logo. The fresh website was designed by Float.

In addition to the traditional stationery being produced with the new design, Music in Detention will employ the rebrand for creating posters and CD faces. The charity organises music workshops between detained immigrants and musicians to encourage detainees to make music.

Lydia Thornley Design’s blog says the agency approached the rebrand by getting involved in the charity’s activities.

It says, “Getting the framework right for the brand has been a long process of working out where complex audiences – including detainees, local communities, music organisations, IRC staff and musicians – intersect and distilling what the organisation does into one visual language that can communicate different things to different people.”

By understanding the organisation’s objectives, the design house was able to bring the rebrand to life through music, just as Music in Detention brings music to life for detainees.
