REPUTATION IN OIL, GAS & MINING CONFERENCE

Reputation in the extractives industry requires a company to manage its communications effectively, while maintaining a state of constant preparedness for a potential crisis. The industry’s high risk factor makes reputation management of the utmost importance to an organisation’s corporate communications team and to its perception by the public.

Communicate magazine’s third-annual Reputation in Oil, Gas and Mining conference features a half-day of discussions and presentations by industry leaders and communications professionals in the extractives industry.

The morning will kick off with a discussion on reputation and crisis management before sessions led by Tullow Oil and TAQA examine internal and brand communications. The programme concludes with a joint session on the issues the industry faces, led by Ben Peachey, communications director at the International Council on Mining & Metals and Ken Cronin, chief executive of the UK Onshore Operators Group.

Publishing editor of Communicate, Andrew Thomas says, "For companies in the extractive sector, dialogue on brand and reputation so often starts with a conversation on the sector rather than the company itself. Likewise, for the audiences, the perception starts with the industry in which the company operates rather than the organisation itself. Reputation in Oil Gas and Mining is the only dedicated conference to address these issues of perception, brand and reputation management. This is the fourth year for the event and the programme just gets better each time."

Communications in the extractives industry involves fighting a constant war on multiple fronts. From a health and safety standpoint, internal communications and external regulations must be comprehensive and complex. Environmentally, an oil or mining company has the responsibility not only to manage its environmental impact but communicate the steps it has taken toward promoting sustainability as a core business practice. Internally, international organisations employ people in a range of professions around the world that must be engaged in communications from the central organisation. This conference will tackle those issues and many more.

The Reputation in the Oil, Gas and Mining conference is the showcase event for communicators in the extractives industry.
