CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS COMMS AND CRISIS IN EXTRACTIVE SECTOR

Warren Buffet famously said, “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.” In any sector, reputation can protect a company or bring one down. In the extractive sector, the stakes are higher as the nature of work in oil, gas and mining presents more acute challenges.

Communicate magazine’s Reputation in Oil, Gas and Mining conference has examined corporate reputation in the extractive sector for the past four years. It has seen speakers from the world’s leading extractive companies comment on the obstacles they face, the successes and failures they’ve experienced and the issues impacting their sector today.

This year’s conference, to be held 11-12 June at Emirates Stadium in London, has an unmissable programme for communicators in the extractive sector, featuring an examination of crisis communications, rebranding, compliance and ethics, international law, digital communications and much more. Speakers from Royal Dutch Shell, Puma Energy, ENRC, Hess Corporation and others will address delegates over the course of the event.

Speaker Jannik Lindbaek, VP of media relations at Norway's national oil company, Statoil, said at last year's event, "I think it's very good that Communicate magazine set up this conference. Oil, gas and mining is obviously an industry that relies on trust between communities and authorities so we need to understand how to work in a way that builds reputation."

Delegates from last year’s conference said the event was a unique meeting place for communicators in the sector. One adds, “It’s absolutely essential there are opportunities like this [Reputation in Oil, Gas and Mining] for people to come together and share their learnings and experiences.”
