CORPORATE & FINANCIAL AWARDS 2017 SHORTLIST REVEALED
Overshadowed by the looming challenges of post-Brexit uncertainty, many businesses are preparing to batten down the hatches. As risk aversion remains top of the agenda, low interest rates and plummeting productivity figures has stifled the UK economy of late. Yet despite the ongoing challenges, the Corporate & Financial Awards recognises a persevering excellence in staff, companies, agencies and beneficiaries within developing categories, and this year’s shortlist highlights the multiplicity and diversity across the plateau.
Forming much of the programme, reporting has long been at the helm of corporate communications as a principle tool. Both the magazine and awards’ coverage of the space takes into consideration the manifold nature of reporting. With criteria ranging from reporting within the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 to online and printed reports, the Corporate & Financial Awards 2017 has welcomed entries from 40% of the FTSE 100.
Now in its sixth year, the awards programme welcomes an incremental progression, with a meticulous judging process and panel that reflects the professionalism of the City. Gary Davies is director of investor relations at GSK and sits on the judging panel of the Corporate & Financial Awards, he says, “The judging was very fair and there was good engagement and discussion across the whole judging panel – it was not hard to come to a majority opinion and even unanimity in many of the categories. I was delighted to have been invited to join the panel and very much enjoyed the judging process.”
Shortlisted in several categories, Birmingham-based communications agency, Jones & Palmer, worked across various sectors including retail and energy. In much the same way, MerchantCantos and Conran Design Group showed a similar, cross-sector approach to the corporate space, resulting in recognition in categories such as 'Best printed report: FTSE 100' and 'Best CSR/ESG report.' Emperor was also shortlisted in the 'Best printed report AIM/small cap' and 'Best online report: unlisted' categories.'
Andrew Thomas, publishing editor of Communicate magazine, says, “Over the past six years, we’ve seen companies’ communications come together; organisations not only deliver the same message to investors, analysts and business journalists, but also speak with the same voice to their employees, to their local communities and to the wider communities with whom they engage. And speak it well.”
