AGENCIES OPT TO PLANT SUSTAINABLE ECOSYSTEMS OVER OFFICE CHRISTMAS TREES
Sister creative agencies RAPP UK and Code have utilised its specialised data and technology divisions to drive the reforestation of critical ecosystems. The innovative move works to tackle climate change and raise awareness of its joint sustainability programme.
Rather than putting up a traditional Christmas tree, the creative agencies decided to launch a new initiative called ‘Raise the Floor’ in partnership with climate action organisation Ecologi. The agencies will plant their own forest equal to the square footage of its office space. The ecosystems will work to support critical environments across the world.
RAPP and Code have pledged to plant 4.5k trees, the amount it would take to fill its office, every year for the next ten years. Through the course of the programme, the agencies will plant a total of 45k mangrove trees across 4.5 hectares of land in Madagascar.
Allison Gilbert, DE&I and communications manager at RAPP UK says, “Madagascar hosts one of the most essential ecosystems on earth and we hope that our commitment to the reforestation of these spectacular places will help to sustain our environment for future generations."
The agencies will also develop a specialised digital landing page enabling employees and visitors to watch the forest grow and thrive. Communications businesses are being encouraged to join the initiative. A specialised tool is used to calculate the number of trees equivalent to each office space. Ecologi will then plant 10k trees per hectare at 12 pence per tree.
“One agency is not enough, which is why we are inviting everyone in adland to get involved – both agency-side and client-side. It’s a super easy and highly-effective way to make a positive impact and give back this festive season,” adds Gilbert.
