PR LEADERS ARE DIVIDED OVER PLAN B CORONAVIRUS MEASURES
The Public Relations and Communications Association has released findings from its ‘Plan B’ Pulse Check, looking at the impact of new Covid-19 measures on the PR industry. It reveals that 50% of PR bosses and in-house leaders expect the government’s latest measures to have little or no impact on business operations.
The study carried out by insights agency, Question & Retain, was sent to communications leaders following the Government's announcement of 'Plan B' measures, which aim to limit the spread of the Omicron variant.
Annabel Dunstan MPRCA, founder and CEO at Question & Retain, says, “We are seeing a mixed picture here, but it is hardly unsurprising when there have been so many varying messages from the government over the last few weeks. Business leaders are working hard to do the right thing, balancing the physical health of staff along with business impact and of course mental health.”
Findings revealed that 64% of employers will allow employees to continue working from the office if they choose, despite the latest government guidance advising people to work from home where possible. Only 25% of leaders confirmed they would close offices, while 11% said they were still unsure of plans.
When asked how restrictions were expected to impact their operations, 39% of industry leaders said they were unsure. Respondents also appear to be divided when it comes to Christmas parties, as 21% said they have cancelled events compared to 29% who expect to go ahead with physical events as scheduled.
PRCA Director General Francis Ingham MPRCA says, “The PR and Communications industry is split down the line about the impact of Plan B measures. What cannot be questioned is our industry’s ability to react and adapt to changes while delivering value for clients, people and organisations. The last 18 months have proven our ability and I’ve no doubt we will meet the challenges that lie ahead.”
