SLACK LAUNCHES TOOL TO AUTOMATE INTERNAL COMMS WORKFLOW

Slack launched Workflow Builder, a tool designed to streamline routine functions in internal communications, today.

Slack’s Workflow Builder is designed to be automate digital workflows seamlessly by removing internal comms productivity roadblocks, such as making requests, asking for updates and providing context to teammates, the company claimed.

Digital workflows are sequential tasks (or combinations of tasks) that make up everyday processes in teams. They include interactions between applications, which allow users to automate a sequence of tasks to increase productivity.

The company has produced a range of examples of Workflow Builder use, such as welcoming teammates in onboarding channels, requesting information with custom forms and collecting incident reports in real time.

Users can download pre-built workflow templates or build their own. Instructions on how to build a custom workflow are provided on Slack's blog. The company promised users a “steady stream of new features that enable more ways to use it.”

In a recent interview head of Slack UK Stuart Templeton claimed that in many organisations Slack has already taken over email for internal use. The instant messaging app reached 12 million active users last month.
