GWPR ANNOUNCES MENTORSHIP EVENT TO SUPPORT WOMEN IN PR
Recent research revealed that despite the PR industry being two-thirds female, 64% of seats in the boardroom are held by men. As a result, GWPR used the results of its annual index survey, to identify the most effective strategies in breaking down barriers to the boardroom.
The survey found the most important initiative was having more senior women as role models. Through this unique mentoring day, GWPR is aiming to provide role models with a platform to inspire and support the next generation of PR women and encourage them into future leadership roles.
The event will feature over 100 members of the GWPR organisation and embrace the theme #ChooseToChallenge, in celebration of International Women’s Day. Over 24 hours, leading PR professionals from across the globe will mentor over 200 mid-career PR women. The impressive list of mentors includes some of the most senior people working in the global industry.
Cornelia Kunze, GWPR international chair, said “So many women working in senior roles in PR and Communications from all over the world have come forward to support us – it has been incredible. It clearly demonstrates that there is a real passion to re-dress the balance in leadership in the PR industry.”
GWPR is inviting women with a minimum of five years of experience to participate as mentees and once accepted, they will be matched with an international mentor. The event will take place on Monday 8 March in 30-minute sessions across 20 countries.
