THOMAS COOK ADVERT TOPS #TCRBOMB TIMELINE

Amid the Tottenham Court Road bombing incident, Thomas Cook has attracted some unwanted attention as a result of the #TCRbomb hashtag.

When typing in the hash tag, Thomas Cook’s advertorial, or ‘Promoted Tweet’, was the first listed in the feed due to the TC search term being recognised.

There are questions over what effect the marketing blunder will have on the corporate reputation of Thomas Cook, as the incident caused controversy among tweeters.

Here is a selection of some of the tweets:

A spokesperson for Thomas Cook says: “The search term TC wasn't part of the promotion and to stop it happening again we have suspended all advertising on Twitter.

“Also, the Promoted Tweet will only have appeared for certain people. For example, if you’re following Thomas Cook, or you have a profile similar to someone who is, then the Thomas Cook advertorial will have appeared.”

The company hopes the issue will be resolved over the weekend.
