FOUNDATION CHAIRMAN MAXIMISES SPONSORSHIP IMPACT

Inspired by the film ‘Pay it Forward’, featuring Kevin Spacey, a sports philanthropist triggers a chain of good by expanding upon his usual sponsorship schemes.

, has agreed to sponsor Goldie Sayers, a javelin record holder in the UK, on the condition that she, in turn, mentors Katarina Johnson-Thompson, a heptathlete who Wells has been funding for the past six years.

Johnson-Thompson is already a world number one heptathlete, but her weakest disciplines are throwing events, such as javelin. In a bid to help her win an Olympic Gold, Wells decided to put her in touch with Sayers.

Wells comments, “I sat down with Goldie to discuss how I could help her achieve her ambitions in the javelin in world championships and Olympics and we hatched the plan to offer sponsorship in return for Goldie sharing her throwing expertise with Katarina. The pair have already successfully trained twice together at Katarina's base in Liverpool.”

Wells sponsored a number of athletes in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics. Now his philanthropic efforts are mostly focused on the Barrie Wells Trust ‘Box 4 Kids’ initiative, a project that won two gold awards at last year’s Corporate Engagement Awards.
